Proscare Tablets (Generic Finasteride 5 mg Tablets)

Proscare (Generic Finasteride 5mg Tablets) is used for the treatment and control of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in patients with an enlarged prostate to cause regression of the enlarged prostate, improve urinary flow and improve the symptoms associated with BPH. It is also used to reduce the incidence of acute urinary retention and the need for surgery including transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and prostatectomy.

Proscare Tablets (Generic Finasteride 5 mg Tablets) Uses of Proscare 5mg Tablets Proscare (Generic Finasteride 5 mg Tablets) is used to treat men who have symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia. BPH is caused by an enlarged prostate. Men with BPH usually have difficulty urinating, a decreased flow of urination, hesitation at the beginning of urination, and a need to get up at night to urinate. Finasteride will make these symptoms less severe and reduce the chance that prostate surgery will be needed. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines such as an alpha- blocker (Doxazosin) to treat BPH.   11. Proscare Tablets (Generic Finasteride 5 mg Tablets) Warnings Proscare (Finasteride 5 mg Tablets) reduces serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels by approximately 50%. However, any confirmed increase in PSA while on Proscare may signal the presence of prostate cancer and should be evaluated, even if those values are still within the normal range for men not taking a 5alpha-reductase inhibitor. Proscare may increase the risk of high-grade prostate cancer. Females should not handle crushed or broken PROSCAR tablets when they are pregnant or may potentially be pregnant due to potential risk to a male fetus. Significant lethality was observed in male and female mice at single oral doses of 1500 mg/m2 (500 mg/kg) and in female and male rats at single oral doses of 2360 mg/m2 (400 mg/kg) and 5900 mg/m2 (1000 mg/kg), respectively. Finasteride (Proscare 5 mg tablets) is contraindicated for use in women who are or could become pregnant. During animal studies, Finasteride caused abnormal development of external genitalia in male fetuses if administered to a pregnant female. In case this medicine is used during pregnancy, or if the patient becomes pregnant while taking this medicine, the patient must be told of the potential hazard to the male fetus.
