Minds On:Recognizing Open Questions Sort the list of questions into two groups: Open Questions and Closed questions
Discuss: • What makes the open questions open? • How are the open questions different from the closed questions? • How do the open questions connect to the Big Ideas of LGP?
Action - Opening Questions Use one of the strategies from BLM PL 5.2 to rewrite your question as an open question. Share your question with another pair for feedback and refinement. Repeat the process with 2 more questions and try different strategies.
Consolidate What do you notice about the open questions? Were some strategies easier to use than others? How did you decide which strategy to use? What did you discuss as you opened questions? Were there any challenges?
Consolidate • Create your own open question for a lesson you intend to teach. • Use a TIPS or text question as a starting point. • Remember to connect your question to your lesson goal and big ideas for LGP.
