Uncertainty In Measurement Objective: extract from background information
Notebook: • Data table: only include best etimate +/- uncertainty • Calculations: in packet last page • 1. amt of potassium sulfate in beaker A: subtract out empty beaker (uncertainties add together) • 2. amt of potas. Sulfate in beaker A after drying: subtract filter paper and beaker A from part 2 beaker A+potas. Sulfate+filter paper (add uncertainties • 3. amt of potas sulfate in B after drying: subtract beaker B (add uncertainties) • 4. Total potassium sulfate after drying: add answers for calc. 2 and 3 together.
Notebook continued Conclusion: In a well-written summary (normal format) include your range of K2SO4 at beginning and range of K2SO4 at end. Discuss whether the results are within the range of uncertainty or if there was a loss or gain. If there was loss/gain, how/why?
