Year 5 Expectations • Organisation - be organised for the day and have necessary belongings e.g. Homework folder, Diary, Library Books, Recorder etc. • Take responsibility for their learning – ask when unsure • Adhere to school and classroom rules • Use of student diary (check at home) – homework, school events • Preparation for leadership roles – demonstrating independence and maturity. Being a role model for others • Mobile phones: Students are not permitted to have mobile phones in school or the playground. Mobile phones brought to school must be switched off and left at the office during the school day. This is also the policy for all excursions. For further information please refer to the website.

Special Days Please check school website and term planner for dates http://www.burrendahps.wa.edu.au/ Senior Sport- All students in Years 5 and 6 participate in sports on a Friday afternoon. This term the sports are cricket, volleyball, basketball and T-ball. In Term 2 the winter sports are AFL football, soccer, netball and flag-belt.
NAPLAN • NAPLAN will be in weeks 3 & 4 of Term Two • Students will complete NAPLAN on the Notebooks, in Room 6 • Students will be typing their writing • Students will practice their typing in class • It would be beneficial if they could also practice this at home as well
Before School Routine • Come to class at 8:30am with school bag • Chair behind desk and organise workspace (stationery) • Morning work on Smart Board to complete/ Finishing off work • School begins at 8:45am
Election Process • Term Four • Information meeting held with all Year 5 students outlining the expectations of a leader • Nomination form and note outlining the expectations of a leader will go home • Students need to ask teachers to sign their nomination form in support of their decision to become a leader • Elections will be held for School Councillors, Faction Captains and School Captains • Votes counted
Homework • Home Reading – written into diary each day and signed by a parent/adult *please listen to your child read aloud each week (once/twice) and ask them questions about what they have read* • Spelling - Look Say Cover Write Check (LSCWC) • If necessary, completion of tasks • Reading Eggspress and Mathletics tasks will be set to help students build their fluency (Passwords glued into diary) • School website for suggested extra activities (Homework Policy) • Connect

Maths 2019 • There will be no streaming in Maths this year • All students will stay in their classroom for all Math strands • I will differentiate each lesson to suit the ability levels of students • The lesson will begin with a warm up (use of whiteboards) • Students will all be taught the same concept, however, different levelled activities will follow • Small groups within the classroom
Room 6’s Behaviour Management Behaviour Management • Warm Fuzzy Jar (whole class) • Students created their ‘Classroom Rules’ • The whole class will receive a ‘Warm Fuzzy’ for following/demonstrating the classroom rules • Once certain levels are reached (elastic bands) the students and I have created rewards to be received as a class
