Distance is the amount of space between two objects. The most common unit of distance is the meter • △d = d2 –d1 • The change in distance is equal to the difference between the beginning distance (usually zero) and the finished distance.
Time – the duration between two events and usually is measure in seconds, minutes or hours • △t = t2-t1 • The change in time is equal to the difference between the beginning time ( usually zero) and the finishing time
Speed- is a rate of motion • V= speed • V= △d/△t • Speed is the ratio between the change in distance and the change in time • V = (d2-d1)/(t2-t1) • Vav = △d/ △t • Average speed takes into consideration acceleration, constant speed and deceleration
Distance and time are two terms that are linked when we look at how fast we travel • We might walk at 6km/hr, drive at 100km/hr or ride a mountain bike downhill at 45km/hr • Ex Ian runs at 100m/10s or 10m/s
