  2. Important Civil War Stuff…. • Leaders: • Abraham Lincoln- President of Union • Jefferson Davis- President of Confederacy • Grant- leader of Union army • Lee- leader of Confederate army • Sherman- Union general that burned Atlanta • Stonewall Jackson- Confederate General

  3. Battles • Fort Sumter- Confederates fired on Union fort- started the Civil War • Antietam- 1st battle on Union land, N wins and Lincoln does the Emancipation Proclamation • Gettysburg- deadliest battle in war, “turning point”, downhill for Confederates after this, Lincoln does Gettysburg Address • Atlanta- Sherman burnt Atlanta and a lot of Georgia to the ground on his march to the sea (signaled the end of the confederacy) • Vicksburg- Union got control of the Mississippi River when they defeated Confederates in Vicksburg, Mississippi

  4. Documents • Emancipation Proclamation- after the Northern victory at Antietam; frees slaves in the Confederate states (hoped they would flee North and help fight) • Gettysburg Address- speech by Lincoln at site of Gettysburg, rallied the North and got the people pumped up and dedicated to winning the war • 13th Amendment- ended slavery
