Use of Bertini Cascade to Model Stopping Particles Julia Yarba Fermilab Geant4 HAD Group meeting 10/26/2011
Outline • Geant4.9.4.ref09 + hadr-casc-V09-04-ref09 • Models: • Traditional (Geisha) • CHIPS • Bertini, Bertini+Precompound • Particle + Target: • p- on C, N, O, Al, Cu, Ta, Pb • K- on H • Data sets • R.Madey et al.,Phys.Rev.C25,3050(1982) • K.Larson et al., Phys.Rev.D47,799(1993) Julia Yarba, FNAL – 10/26/2011
CPU factor: Bertini vs CHIPS • Berini is much faster than CHIPS • Factor 9-10 for lighter targets • Factor ~4 for heavier targets • Bertini+PreCompound for pi- causes on average a factor 2 slowdown vs native Bertini, but it is still a substantial speed gain over CHIPS (factor 2-4 depends of the target) • For K- there’s no difference between Bertini or Bertini+PreCo; speed factor of ~30 vs CHIPS Julia Yarba, FNAL – 10/26/2011
Summary • Bertini Cascade as of hadr-casc-V09-04-38 is a good alternative to CHIPS for stopping pi- • Bertini+PreCompound (deex.) significantly improves G4 modeling of stopping pi- on lighter targets, although it imposes a factor ~2 slowdown • Modeling of stopping K- with Bertini is also possible but some improvements are needed Julia Yarba, FNAL – 10/26/2011
