Philippe Starck Philippe Starck is a legend of modern design. He's known for his luxurious hotels and boites around the world -- notably the Peninsula Hotel restaurant in Hong Kong, the Teatron in Mexico, the Hotel Delano in Miami, the Mondrian in Los Angeles, the Asia de Cuba restaurant in New York -- designing the total environment from layout to furniture to linens. But he has made perhaps his most permanent mark on design through his bold reworkings of everyday objects. In reimagining and rethinking the quotidian, he has produced some of the iconic shapes of the 20th century, including his leggy chrome juice squeezer , the reimagined Emeco aluminium chairs, and the witty Louis ghost polycarbonate fauteuil. When Starck turns his bold vision toward a chair, a shoe, a toothbrush, it's clear he thinks deeper than the glossy surface. C. L. Samuel 2013

Biography« I like to open the doors of the human brain » - Philippe Starck Biography by Jasper EderWhenever we discover an object or a place designed by Philippe Starck, we enter a world of wall-to-wall imagination, surprises and fabulous fantasy. For more than three decades, this unique and multifarious creator, designer and architect has been a part of our daily lives by creating unconventional objects, whose purpose is to be "good" before being beautiful; iconic destinations, that take the members of his "cultural tribe" out of themselves and, most importantly, towards something better. His father, an inventor and aeronautic engineer, gave the young Philippe Starck the desire to create and the capacity to dream.Several years and several prototypes later, he was commissioned to work for President François Mitterrand. This was also when he began designing furniture for leading Italian and international firms.Philippe Starck designs his hotels and restaurants in the same way a director makes a film. He develops scenarios that will lift people out of the everyday and into an imaginative and creative mental world. His hotels have become timeless icons and have added a new dimension to global cityscape. C. L. Samuel 2013
Philippe Starck designs his hotels and restaurants in the same way a director makes a film. He develops scenarios that will lift people out of the everyday and into an imaginative and creative mental world. His hotels have become timeless icons and have added a new dimension to global cityscape.Through Philippe Starck’s concept of "democratic design" – increase the quality objects at lower prices so that more people can enjoy the best – he was a lone voice at a time when design was turned exclusively towards an elite. There are few areas of design he hasn't explored: from furniture to mail-order homes, motorbikes to mega-yachts, and even artistic direction for space-travel projects, to name but a few.Philippe Starck believed in the green long before ecology became fashionable, out of respect for the planet's future. Early on, he created the Good Goods catalogue of non-products for non-consumers in tomorrow's moral market, and set up his own organic food company. More recently he developed the revolutionary concept of "democratic ecology" by creating affordable wind turbines for the home, soon to be followed by solar-powered boats and hydrogen cars.Philippe Starck is a tireless and rebellious citizen of the world who considers it his duty to share his ethical and subversive vision of a fairer world. Philippe Starck is a tireless and rebellious citizen of the world who considers it his duty to share his ethical and subversive vision of a fairer world. He stays tuned in to our dreams, desires and needs - sometimes before we get there ourselves - by making his work a political and civic act which he accomplishes with love, poetry and humour. C. L. Zik: The Story • When Philippe Starck & Henri Seydoux decided to work together, their vision was to change the way we enjoy music. Four years of design and engineering has fused intuitive control with amazing sound clarity to create the world’s most advanced wireless headphones. The Smartphone Generation Headset • Listening to music, making calls and cancelling noise while travelling are features that Smartphone's users are looking for more than ever. To met these needs, Parrot has developed a wireless headset to extend your Smartphone experience further. • Hyper-Intuitive Control • Parrot Zik has a touch-sensitive interface that offers hyper-intuitive control to all the features. Swipe the touch-sensitive control panel vertically to increase the volume; move your finger horizontally to play the next track or go back to the previous one. • Head Detection Sensor • Parrot Zik has a unique head detection sensor; simply take the headset off to put your music on hold. The Bluetooth connection is then automatically reconfigured so that your Smartphone operates independently again. Parrot has perfected the gesture-recognition algorithm in order for it to be more intuitive for the user. Zik, currently the only audio headset that responds to gestures as well as the only screen less device that can interpret gestures, is a true innovation. Discover an innovative way to control your music playlist with Parrot Zik. C. L. Samuel 2013
Recreating the Musical Experience • To ensure music is heard in all its harmony and depth, Parrot took particular care with Zik's audio playback. The headset is equipped with powerful DSP (Digital Sound Processor) algorithms which reconstructs the sound, giving you the impression that the music is coming from in front of you. This is the "Parrot Concert hall" effect. In order to configure the effect, simply download the free Parrot Audio Suite application for IOS or Android. Active Noise Control • To insulate you from external noise, Parrot has developed a high-performance active noise control system that can eliminate up to 98% of ambient sound. While traditional ANC audio headsets use only 2 microphones to analyse ambient noise, Parrot Zik is equipped with 4 microphones located inside and outside each earpiece, offering total listening comfort. How does it work? • Two microphones located inside the headset capture the surround noise. Two additional microphones, one in each earpiece, analyse the residual noise (low frequencies) that could disrupt listening. • The outside noise is cancelled out by opposing sound waves (anti-noise) in order to create a quieter environment.
