Transformation PowerPoint • I am going over the 3 transformations we have studied in Mrs. Cooks class • Dilation • Translation • Reflection
Dilations • A dilation is when a figures dimensions are changed to form a new figure • There are 2 types of dilations, enlargements and reductions • In both, the new figure is proportional to the original
Enlargements VS Reductions • A enlargement is a dilation where the new figure is greater than the original • In a enlargement, the scale factor is greater than 1 • A reduction is a dilation where the new figure is less than the original • In a reduction, the scale factor is less than one • On the next slide ill show some examples
Enlargements VS Reductions Part 2 • Enlargement Ex. The scale factor is 2 Original New 3in 9in 4in 8in
Enlargements VS Reductions Part 2 • Reduction Ex. The scale factor is 1/2 Original New 9in 3in 8in 4in
Translations • A translation is when you slide a figure on the coordinate grid to a new position. Here’s an example • 4,6 7,6 • It translated to the right 3 units
Reflections • A reflection is when a figure on the coordinate grid flips over the x or y axis • When you flip a figure, the value of the axis you flip over stays the same while the other one becomes opposite of its original value
