  1. Eph. 5:22-24

  2. GODLY HOMES - More than 60% of all children born today will spend at least some time in a single parent household before age 18. INTRO: - Studies show that most street-gang members came from single-parent homes. - A study of 72 adolescent murderers found that ¾ came from single parent homes. These illustrate the terrible impact of broken homes upon children. How can we avoid adding our children to these statistics? Better yet, how can we help our children avoid Hell?

  3. GODLY HOMES I. TEACH COMMITMENT TO GOD A. No “How To” Book Can Replace God’s Word (Jer. 10:23). B. Nothing will teach our children commitment like OUR OWN EXAMPLE (2 Tim. 3:5; Dt. 6:6-9)! 1. Submission is to be “as unto the Lord” (Eph. 5:22-24). 2. Children obey “in the Lord” (Eph. 6:1-3). 3. Servants serve “as unto the Lord” (Col. 3:22-25).

  4. GODLY HOMES I. TEACH COMMITMENT TO GOD C. Pride, Selfishness & self-fulfillment are not anchors! Michal loved David (1 Sam. 18:20)! David did something Michal disapproved of (2 Sam. 6:16). Michal despised & mocked David! (2 Sam. 6:16, 20) Caused a breach that was never healed (2 Sam. 6:23).

  5. GODLY HOMES II. TEACH BIBLICAL HEADSHIP A. Sacrificial Love (Eph. 5:25-33)! 1. The purpose of love (5:25-27; Rom. 13:10). 2. The depth of love (Eph. 5:25, 28-30, 33; 2 Cor. 8:9). B. That submission is not synonymous with inferiority (Phil. 2:3-9). 1. If Jesus can submit Himself to the roll of servant… why cannot we? 2. Requires “emptying” & “humbling” ourselves…

  6. GODLY HOMES II. TEACH BIBLICAL HEADSHIP C. Too often, people get married for just selfish reasons. 1. Sexual or emotional desire. 2. To “escape” parents. 3. No thought for the character of who they marry… (Amos 3:3). This produces conflict in the home… This makes it hard to submit… This robs children of an essential example!

  7. GODLY HOMES III. TEACH HOW TO WORK WITH CONTENTMENT A. Honest Labor (Eph. 4:28). 1. Is godly & honorable. 2. Laziness is a sin (Pr 21:25; Mt. 25:26). “The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.” 3. How can we deny our reason of existence & be happy (Phil. 2:7; 1 Tim. 6:8; Heb.13:5)? “ Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

  8. GODLY HOMES III. TEACH HOW TO WORK WITH CONTENTMENT B. Women Should See The Happiness & Value Of Being “Workers at Home” (Titus 2:5). 1. Is according to God’s word (Titus 2:1, 5). 2. It is IMPORTANT Work! Each one is an eternal soul in your hands! 3. It is PRESSING Work! Time goes swiftly! 4. It is YOUR Work! Not someone else’s! We need to follow the path of the godly contented before we sacrifice the formative years of our children on the altar of wanting more (1 Tim. 6:10)!

  9. GODLY HOMES IV. TEACH THE TO BE SPIRITUALLY MINDED A. Carnal vs Spiritual Mind (1 Cor. 2:14-15). 1. Gangs / Peer Pressure (Prov. 1:10-19). 2. Sex (Prov. 7). 3. Drugs (Prov. 23:29-35). B. If YOU don’t teach YOUR children... 1. How can you expect anyone else to teach theirs (Mt. 7:1-5)? 2. How can you expect them to go to heaven? 3. How can you expect to go to heaven?

  10. GODLY HOMES CONCLUSION: Godly Homes… A. Our children will be better for it. B. Society will be better for it… C. We will be better for it… We All Know This… But The Question Is… Do We Care? If we care… we will DO something about it!
