Assistive Learning Assistive learning includes devices and services that will assist and help others that has permanent or acute disabilities which will help a student reach his/her highest potential and capabilities. It is used for students to • Communicate • Perform academic tasks • Participate in social and extracurricular activities • Move or travel around the school • Use proper seating and positioning • Access materials
Assistive Learning Law Assistive technology -devices and services were first defined in federal law in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-476). These definitions remained unchanged until 2004 with the passage of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (Public Law 108-446) when an exemption to the definition of an assistive technology device was added to clarify a school system’s responsibility to provide surgically implanted technology such as cochlear implants.
Hearing Impaired Hearing assistive device - a device that will help a student needed when they are hearing impaired such as Cochlear implants, headphones, and recorders.
Visual Impaired Visual impaired - device used when a student has a difficult time seeing clearly which can effect their long term learning. Examples are Braille bar on the laptop, binoculars, magnifying glasses,and large print test
Learning Disability • Learning Disability - student that has a difficult learning and understanding daily educational needs. Example such as computer games, tablet style devices, and planners.
Physical Disability Physical Disability - when the student has a physical incapability to move normally without assistance. Examples are devices such as super powered wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs and hand grips.
