  3. Le futur simple We have learned a little about the future tense already. We have learned how to form le futurproche, equivalent to the English ‘I am going to …’. Je vais acheter un pantalon cet après-midi. I am going to buy a pair of trousers this afternoon. Like ‘I am going to …’ in English, le futurprochein French is used to talk about something you plan to do in the near future.

  4. But in French, as in English, there is another future tense, which is used to talk about somethingyou’re thinking of doing at some time in the future (but you’re not sure when). This is called lefutur simple and is equivalent to the English ‘I will …’. Note, however: In French le futur simple consists of just one word; the ‘will’ bit of the English future is added on to the end of the verb.
