What kinds of stories does Groundwire Feature? Groundwire features progressive voices from across the country Groundwire aspires to cover stories that are overlooked or underreported by the media Listen to Groundwire @ www. groundwire.ncra.ca
What kinds of stories does Groundwire Feature? • Each episode features stories that touch on at least four of the following themes: Labour and Worker’s Rights | Indigenous Perspectives | Migration, refugee and newcomer issues | Student affairs -Environment, Agriculture, Alternative Economy and Sustainability News | Women and Equality -Queer and Trans Voices -Prison justice reporting | Race and Equity focus |Poverty and Homelessness |Disability/Accessibility issues | Pro-Peace reporting
Headlines • Headlines should be 1:30 to 2:00 minutes long with actuality or 60 to 90 seconds without • Headlines Should be sent directly to me @ joel.barde@gmail.com
Features • Features should be 3, 5, or 7 minutes long • Should feature more than one voice • Should feature two contrasting opinions on the issue being discussed • Please include a text introducing your feature • Should be sent to groundwireprod@gmail.com
How do you edit a story? • Use audio software like Soundforge, Audition, or Audacity • Audacity – which most people use – is free to download • Files should be saved in .mp3 format • There are great resources on the net for how to use Audacity. You may also be able to get assistance at your local community radio station
Important Points • Attribute where you get information or quotes from • Interviewees must know that what they say may be broadcasts • Make sure your story is not libelous or slanderous
When to Submit by? • The show airs Sundays twice monthly • Next show will be sent out to member stationsApril8 • Pitches are due the first Thursday of the Cycle • Features and Headlines are due the second Thursday of the cycle
