  1. Rapid Prototyping of New NASA Sensor Data into the SERVIR System

  2. Goals of the SERVIR Experiment To develop and test transition paths for SERVIR applications, products, and Decision Support Systems to use new NASA sensor data

  3. Experiment Team Leaders • SERVIR at MSFC – Dan Irwin • CATHALAC in Panama – Emil Cherrington • MRC – RPC team – Greg Easson

  4. Current Organization • Headquarters at Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC) • Test facility at NASA MSFC • Other partners: • City of Knowledge • Central American Commission on Environmental and Development (CCAD) • World Bank • others

  5. Current System • SERVIR provides: • Imagery and geospatial data • Interactive mapping • Thematic DST’s • 3-D visualization of Meso-America

  6. Thematic DST’s • Fire Detection – daily MODIS imagery • Red-tide detection – daily MODIS and SeaWiFS • Climate change – MODIS imagery and MM5 models • Land use/land cover change – multiple imagery types, including MODIS, Landsat, and SRTM

  7. Thematic DST’s • Weather forecasts – WRF in cooperation with NASA SPoRT • Floods – GOES, MODIS and AMSR-E • Food security – TRMM precipitation, MODIS NDVI, others • Hurricanes – GOES • Earthquakes – supported by USGS

  8. Proposed Methods • Work with SERVIR staff to evaluate each DST and product • Determine order of experiments • Evaluate potential of new NASA sensors • Develop or acquire experimental data for new sensors • Conduct experiments for DST’s selected by SERVIR project staff

  9. Concept of Operations • After DST has been selected; • Team will be assembled based on the thematic area • Project plan will be written in consultation with SERVIR staff, • Conduct the experiment • Evaluate the results • Publish the results
