Overview • Shibboleth Trust Federations • Australian Access Federation • LAMS Joint Classes demonstration • Muradora secure TLF object delivery • Questions
Shibboleth Trust Federations • A Trust Federation is a combination of technology and policy infrastructure that allows different organisations to collaborate in a secure and distributed way. • Shibboleth is the world’s leading Trust Federation technology for the education and research sector • Shibboleth Trust Federations are being rolled out in Australia (MAMS testbed; Australian Access Federation), New Zealand, UK, USA and many other countries.
Australian Access Federation • The Australian Access Federation project is taking forward the work of the MAMS (Shibboleth) and e-Security (PKI) projects to develop a unified trust federation for higher education and research • Policy and governance • PKI and Shibboleth production rollout • Adoption support, workshops, supporting systems, etc • For details, see www.aaf.edu.au
Demonstrations • Using Shibboleth and LAMS to create “Joint Lessons” across classes from different educational institutions • Without requiring IT staff assistance with accounts, etc • Trusted repository access • Muradora (Shibboleth-based, Java front-end to Fedora repository, XACML for authorisation) • Can be used for delivery of Learning Objects (eg, TLF)
Integration with NZ MoE ESAA • The Demonstrations are based on the existing MAMS Testbed Federation • NZ Ministry of Education ESAA project has joined the MAMS Testbed as an Identity Provider • Illustrates potential for connection between different federations • LAMS example illustrates potential for join classes across different countries • Shibboleth enabling of LAMS supported by NZ MoE • Ready for real world trials in 2008 • Email me if interested (james@melcoe.mq.edu.au) • Thanks to NZ MoE for supporting this work
