Newton’s Second Law • Newton’s Second Law of Motion- Acceleration depends on the objects mass and the net force acting on the object. • Connects the net force on an object, its mass and its acceleration • Acceleration=net force/mass (not the same as motion, change in velocity)
Gravity • Force exists between any two objects that have mass • Gravity always is attractive and pulls objects towards each other • Weight- Size of the gravitational force exerted on an object. • A free falling object towards Earth Accelerates 9.8m/s every second it falls. • Force of Gravity increases when mass increases and when objects get closer.
Resistance • Air resistance is a form of friction that slows down any object moving in the air. • Falling objects with greater surface area experience more air resistance! • Terminal velocity- the greatest velocity an object reaches.
Circular Motion • When object moves in a circle, it is constantly having change in velocity, so it has a constant Acceleration. • Centripetal Force- the force that causes the object to move in a circle. • Direction is toward the center of objects circular path • Ex: Satellites around Earth- moving so fast they never fall to Earth
