  2. Emphasis on diversity • Active Students + Graduates=53 • Women= 32/53 (60%) • Ethnic Minority= 11/53 (20%) • 32 IUR students graduated • 100% retention to graduation! • 29 in graduate school or accepted to grad school: UCB, Cornell, Stanford, MIT, GaTech, UT Austin, UCLA

IUR Program at Cal • Poster sessions: 3 per year with prizes • Graduate School Workshops with Faculty: Fall, Spring and Summer Statements of Purpose, Fellowships, Letters of recommendation, Choosing a Program • Academic Advising for graduate school • Graduate School Fair: IUR and IEEE • Web site with online resources

Students Perceive Benefits! • “It gave me a tremendous confidence when applying to graduate school, and even now in graduate school, because I'm not so afraid of what research is.” • “Without this motivation to continue research, I wouldn't have been confident or encouraged to continue (because there is a lot of stress being just a student).”

  6. Future Directions • Form closer link with Intel Research Lab at Berkeley • Develop more online resources • Broaden IUR to include freshmen and sophomores • Diversify funding base • Track IUR alumni in graduate school
