Understand the context - understandwhat the call is about - get information by contacting the organisers, speakingwith people on the evaluationcommitteeetc i.e. beinformedbeforeyoubegin 2. Be creative - look for a niche at the cuttingedge of research – bepro-active, don’twaitfor someone to tell youwhat to do - BUT, make sure you have a paper of twobeforeyousubmit the proposal - demonstrationof feasability, mark yourterritory. Remember, good papers help youget good funding! - look for useful collaboration with people whocanprovide a positive advance to yourproject (e.g. access to super instruments) 3. Proposalwriting - use original, innovativeideas - involve good collaborators - beclear about whatyou are going to do (objectives), how you are going to do it (approach), and whatyouexpectfrom the project (deliverables) - beinformed about the criteriathatwillbeused in evaluating the proposal and clearlyaddressthem
