Mrs. Jennifer Hull Family • Husband – Chad • Pottsville graduate • Works for Hugg & Hall as Field Tech • 2 boys – Caleb (14) and Caden (10) • Caleb in 9th grade • Loves Football (Steelers fan), playing Xbox and funny movies • Caden in 4th grade • Loves Football (Go Saints!) Baseball (Go Yankees!) and likes basketball. • PS – Don’t ever tell them that I’ve been talking about them in class…it usually embarrasses them just like your parents embarrass you sometimes!
411 • Grew up in Fort Smith • Graduated from Southside High School • University of Central Arkansas • BSE in English Education • Arkansas Tech University • MSE earned in 2003 and • MSE earned in 2008 for Library Media Specialist • 13th year to teach at Pottsville • Taught 7th, 8th and 9th grades at PMG, HS, and now Jr. High!

These are a few of my favorite things… • Reading! • Spending time with family and friends • Learning new technology tricks • Traveling • Camping in the fall/winter – fireside chats are the best! • Listening to music and watching good movies • Finding interesting quotes • Relaxing on my swing • Funny videos (please share any you find with me!) • Over the next few weeks, I want to find these things out about you!!
Student Behaviors • Be prompt • Be ready to learn when class begins. • Be prepared • Have materials with you and know due dates. • Be a polite and positive participant • Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. • Be productive • Turn in work on time, and always do your best. • Be a problem solver • Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate. • Avoid being a helpless handraiser (will explain)
Show Respect • Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. • Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. • Honor the ideas and opinions of others. • Offer to help – both your classmates and your teachers. • Be responsible with property and belongings.
Responsibility for Coursework • Bring binder, library book, planner, and appropriate writing tools to class. • Know due dates and submit all coursework on time. • All assignments are posted daily on the agenda board and on the class Web site. (share class website) • This week you will be creating a Writer’s Notebook section in your binder to have as your starter section…this MUST be completed EVERY DAY!
Promote Lifelong Learning You can develop lifelong learning traits: • By showing curiosity about human nature and how the world works. • By seeking and valuing diversity. • By persisting in seeking out new solutions. • By using your unique talents and intelligence to promote positive change. • By learning and applying technology tools to solve problems.
Policies • Food and beverages are not allowed in the classroom. • Water bottles allowed with water only • Please be in your seat when the bell rings, as class begins at that time. • Absences • Check the weekly agenda • Ask team members or a classmate first for assignments. • Check online for assignment • IF these methods are not successful – be sure to ask me! • Follow the handbook policies for grace period on absences.
Procedures • Entering the room • Moving around the room • Turning in papers • Talking • Leaving during class time • Borrowing tools or materials • Homework • Make-up work • Accelerated Reader Accountability Program • Your Grade • Substitute teachers • Announcements • Late work Policy • Additional items • Discipline – discuss my goal from previous years
Grading • Grades are based on the accumulation of points. • Points are based on: • Class participation (effort) • Completion of assignments (daily work and writing starters) • Major projects, exams, and self-reflection • Grades are posted online and updated every time there is an assignment due and graded, which should be at least twice weekly. • Our Grading Scale • 90-100% = A • 80-89% = B • 70-79% = C • 60-69% = D • Below 60% = F • Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible.
My Pledge to Students • I will trust you until you give me reason to do otherwise. • I will respect you and work with you to solve problems. • I will promptly correct and offer feedback on your work. • I will work with you to meet learning goals. • I will offer extra help and alternative assessments should you require them.
Most importantly… • It is my hope that you will ENJOY this class this year! If you are miserable – talk to me about it. • If I say something to offend you – please talk to me about it. • If someone else says or does something to offend you – please talk to me about it! • If all else fails – have fun, smile and laugh and TALK TO ME ABOUT IT!
