History of Novocain • German Chemist Alfred Einhorn was researching a non-addictive anesthetic to use on soldiers wounded in battle. He used the basic cocaine molecule. It was perfected on November 1905 until he made procaine later to be called Novocain.

Uses of Novocain • The main use of Novocain is in the dental industry. It is usually in injected by needle in to your gums and numbs the the area where it was injected. Besides the local anesthetic action, Novocain, when absorbed and injected direct into blood flow, has a general effect on the organism: reduces spasms of the smooth muscles, lowers the excitability of the cardiac muscle and of the cerebral cortex motor zones.
