Logging on to HINARI 1 Before logging into PubMed, we can Login to the HINARI website using the URL http://www.who.int/hinari/
Logging into HINARI 2 We will need to enter our HINARI User Name and Password in theappropriate boxes, then click on the Login button. Note: If you do not properly sign on, you will not have access to full text articles.
Remember - if you fail to use the Login page, you will have a second option on the Full text journals, databases, and other resources sub-page.
Main HINARI webpage Once you are logged in from the main HINARI webpage, access PubMed by clicking on Search HINARI journal articles through PubMed (Medline).
PubMed home page 1 Welcome to the PubMed Homepage. Part 2 of the tutorial will look at using the Limits function to narrow down our search results by different parameters. If we type in a search statement such as tuberculosis in the Search box, we will get a large number of records in our results.
PubMed search results The tuberculosis search will return almost 173000 hits. This is too many to view in any meaningful way. This includes almost 22000 HINARI citations and 19000 Free full text citations
Limit Link We can begin to narrow this down by looking at the Limits function.
Limits page 1 Here is the Limits page. Searches can be limited by restricting terms to fields or setting specific date or record tagging parameters. Note the new Advanced Search (12 2008) option that enables you to use Limits with other PubMed features.
Limits page 2 This slide notes the Limits options not listed on the previous slide.
Limit by Author(s) This is an Author name search for Ribeiro.
Limit by Author(s) Here is the Limits Author display for Ribeiro. Note that there are 5983 citations for this last name.
Limit by Journal(s) This is the Journal Name search for Natu. Note the various titles with the abbreviation.
Limit by Journal(s) Here is the Limits Journal display for Nature Biotechnology. Note the total of 5880 articles for this journal.
Limit by Free Full Text and Abstract This is the full text, free full text and abstracts search box. Note: if you use the Links to free full text option, you will limit the search to only free full text articles and exclude the HINARI ones. We suggest not using this Limit.
Limit by Publication Date The Published in the last 1year Limit has been highlighted from the drop down menu. Note the various options including a ‘Specify Date Range’.
Limit by Publication Date Here is the Published in the last 1 yearLimits for TUBERCULOSIS AND HIV. This limits the search to 616 citations.
Limit by Publication Date This is the Dates search box. You can search by Published in the Last… or Added to PubMedin the Last… Limits.
Limit by Publication Date In this Published in the Last…Limits, we have entered 1999 in the date range.
