Safety, Target & Reach School List by College Kickstart
What is a safety school Safeties are defined as schools where the admit rate is over 50% and your SAT scores are in the top 25th percentile of enrolled students. Since these schools are less selective and your test scores are strong relative to its students, safeties are schools where you have a high probability of gaining admission. They're also the schools where you have the highest likelihood of securing scholarships.
What is a target school Targets are defined as schools where the admit rate is over 25% and your SAT scores are in the mid 50th percentile of enrolled students (or higher). These schools represent your "sweet spot" since your SAT scores are in range and the admit rates are reasonable.
What is a reach school Reaches are defined as schools where the admit rate is under 25% or where your SAT scores are in the bottom 25th percentile of enrolled students. These schools admit very selectively, so the risk is higher of being denied admission, even if your academic performance is strong.
