Jesus Christ our Saviour Why was it necessary for Jesus to die?
1. He died so he could IDENTIFY with all people “Since the children, as he calls them, are people of flesh and blood, Jesus himself became like them and shared their human nature. He did this so that through his death he might destroy the Devil, who has the power over death,” (Heb 2:14 GNB)
“Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to farm the land and to take care of it. The LORD God commanded the man. He said, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden. But you must never eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because when you eat from it, you will certainly die." (Gen 2:15-17 GW) “Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned.” (Rom 5:12 GNB) “For sin pays its wages – death” Romans 6:23
2. He died so He could CARRY the sins of all people For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mat 16:26 MKJV) Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross so that freed from our sins, we could live a life that has God's approval. His wounds have healed you. (1Pe 2:24 GW)
3. He died so He could deal with our PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE a. I have BEEN saved See how much the Father has loved us! His love is so great that we are called God's children---and so, in fact, we are. This is why the world does not know us: it has not known God. (1Jn 3:1 GNB) For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it. (Eph 2:8 GNB)
b. I am BEING saved Everyone who has this hope in Christ keeps himself pure, just as Christ is pure. (1Jn 3:3 GNB) But continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, now and forever! Amen. (2Pe 3:18 GNB)
c. I WILL BE saved “My dear friends, we are now God's children, but it is not yet clear what we shall become. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he really is.” (1Jn 3:2 GNB) But after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who calls you to share his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself perfect you and give you firmness, strength, and a sure foundation. (1Pe 5:10 GNB) “But now having been freed from sin (past) and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification (present), and the outcome, eternal life (future).” (Rom 6:22 NASB)
