2. What the ascension says about Jesus Ps. 110:1 is quoted 19 times in the N.T. a. He is the warrior-king Rev. - glorious in majesty – 1:12-18 - awesome in power – 1:16;17:14;19:11-16 1. The Cross – Col.2:13-15 2. The Gospel – Mt.28:18-20; Eph.6:17-20
b. He is our mediator/High Priest - Hebrews 1. He is fully human - becoming one of us – 2:14,17 - tempted & suffered – 2:18;4:15 - fully prepared – 5:8-10 2. He is God - the Son of God – 7:28 - an eternal Priest/King – 7:23,24; 8:1 He is the perfect mediator – 10:12-14
3. What the ascension means for us a. Our past - picture of High Priest – Heb.9:24-26 - picture of Jesus seated – Heb.10:12-14 We can come to God now – Heb.10:19-22
b. Our present – Rom.8:34; Heb.7:25; 1John2:1 Jesus “carries” us on his shoulders & close to his heart cf. Ex.28:6-30 He:- • Assures us of access to God • Supplies all we need – Heb.4:14-16; Acts2:33; Eph.4:7-10; Mt.28:18-20 • Encourages us to pray – Lk.22:31,32; John17; Rom.8:26,27
c. Our future • As King he perfectly carries out God’s plans • He has gone to prepare a place for us – John14:1-3 The Cross & Resurrection, Ascension & Return are part of that preparation. We live by faith in Christ – Rom.8:34,35-39
