A short history: Bulldogs in the Bluegrass • Summer internship program for 26-40 Yale undergraduates • Started summer 1999 • Initiative of Yale in Kentucky, Inc., alumni body • Founded by Rowan Claypool- Yale ‘80 • Enticed total of 233 Bulldogs to Louisville in seven years
Bulldogs in the BluegrassConcept • Conceived and run by amateurs • Initially seen as an effort to curb Louisville’s “brain drain” • Genesis for new Alumni infrastructure • Revolutionized concept of Alumni activities • Followed no models-endeavors to be unique • Designed to highlight Louisville’s assets and resources
Cloning Works-ClevelandJumps in • “Bulldogs on the Cuyahoga” • Similar civic issues: “Quiet Crisis” • Robust Yale Alumni Club • Significant Civic Funding Support • Followed proven program design • Results: $125,000 raised, 147 applicants and 34 placements in first year
Results in Louisville over seven years • 233 Bulldogs know Louisville as their hometown • Louisville in top ten cities in Yale student population • 17 new Louisville residents • Dozen senior essays inspired by experiences • Numerous major and career changes • Total of 106 nonprofit and for profit employers • Everyone involved is changed by Bulldogs

How it works: Bulldogs ‘05 • Applications Jan.14-Feb. 28 • Complete program description and job offerings on the web-site • Single electronic application form • Process 85 applicants and 320 unique job applications • Commitment Letter agreement • Jobs committee follow-up • Preference to first 15 commitments • Filled 26 positions-two-thirds nonprofit
