  2. Early Life • Matthew was born in 1866. • He was raised in Baltimore, Maryland. • His mother died when he was young, so he was raised by his father. • Henson did not have any brothers or sisters. • His family was very poor and barely had any money. • Matthew ran away when he was 11 years old.

  3. Life story • Matthews mom died leaving Matthew behind with his father he never got his right education . • He ran away when he was 11 year old for a while Henson wandered the streets

  4. Accomplishments • Matthew Henson was the first person to go to the North Pole. • Henson was an experienced sailor. • He was one of the greatest explorers ever. • Matthew discovered many new places and animals. • He accomplished all of this, despite never receiving an education.

  5. Legacy • Matthew Henson died March 9, 1955. • He died still discovering new animals and places.
