There are different types of chromatography which are segregated depending on the process. Basically this process is divided in three categories and those are (a) Normal Phase Chromatography (b) Reverse Phase Chromatography and (c) Flash Chromatography.

The Procedure and Classification of Column Chromatography Process
In the chemical industry, the process of purification plays a very crucial role. The process mainly refers to separating two different components for chemical use. Separating two different components which are not structurally similar is not a big deal.
But in cases where the structure and nature of the components are similar, the purification process needs some advanced technology. Column chromatography is a technique that is used to separate two almost similar nature components.
One of the key advantages of this process is that it is extremely cost effective. The column, used in this process is made of glass with a diameter of 5 mm to 50 mm. And the height of the column is somewhere between 5 cm to 1 meter. There is a tap in the bottom as well.
Basically two methods are followed to prepare the column and those are dry method and wet method. In this process the stationary phase is a solid adsorbent mostly silica gel or aluminium. It is placed in the column vertically. Then there is the mobile phase which is normally liquid.
