DCSF-Government White Paper on Education – 30 June 2009 • Chapter 3-Every School Working in Partnerships: Because no school can do it alone • Because we know that no school can provide the full guarantee to every pupil and parent by acting alone, partnership must become central to the organisation of the system • Partnerships are becoming formalised-federations, shared trusts and Executive Principal positions are bringing schools together to respond to local challenges

Why the Cabot Learning Federation Model is Different • Educational Sponsorship not Commercial Sponsorship • Different contributions of Rolls Royce and UWE • Schools working with Schools • CLF is accountable to the Academies and the Academies are accountable to the CLF • Recognition of the Uniqueness of JCA, BBA and BMA • Each Academy to be an Outstanding Autonomous School • Not a Clone of each other

How do the Best Schools in the UK Improve & Sustain Success? • They look beyond their own school as well as within it • They focus on teaching and learning • They develop Leadership at every level • They have simple but effective intervention strategies for students who find learning a challenge • They invest in their staff • They have a wide network of partners who they support and support them
We need to support the training and career aspirations of every adult who is employed by the federation We need to ensure that the practice that makes a difference in one Academy is shared with the other two We need to create opportunities for students to learn together, extending their experiences in their “home” Academy We need to develop sustainable relationships with our partner Primary Schools to create a 3-19 culture across our part of the City What Must the Federation Be Good At?

If we do all this, what are the gains for staff? • Enhanced training opportunities • Access to time spent in another school without having to leave existing role • Shared resources with other colleagues which over time will reduce duplication • Access to funding for Curriculum Development • CLF Website and VLE • A “pool” of talent from PGCE and GTP students
In Summary • The solutions we seek already exist in this room today • Embrace the possibility of working in collaboration with other colleagues • Be bold and innovative-we can transform the learning experience of 2500 students in 2009 and 3000 students in 2010
