  1. Gas Distribution and Supply (GDS) - TS/LEA March 2008 LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson

  2. Detector Services (TS/LEA/DES) Gas distribution and supply Work : Work* : • Daily check of the gas buildings under our responsibility (see the list below) • Order gas from the logistics (on material requests) • Assist the filling of dewars • Maintenance & minor repairs • Changing gas batteries • Operation and Safety • Collaborate with FI/LO with requirements from the gas supplier • Organise the rental of dewars for neutral (liquified) gases • Manage work by contractor • Follow-up request from users • Internal invoicing LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson * Excluded construction of new systems

  3. Interface to other services FI/LO Gas supply contracts Available through stores TS/LEA Gas distribution and supply GDS PH/DT1 Gas controls and mixing Systems Detectors Collaborations LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson

  4. Gas systems Gas panel with rack Filling of Dewar (at point8) LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson

  5. Means Detector Services (TS/LEA/DES) Gas distribution and supply • One full time CERN staff (Andre Castel) • Two FTE on industrial service contract (FSU) • Section leader (part time) History: The gas distribution and supply was a service transferred from the AB-department in 2000 and was sponsored by AB (alone) until 2005. LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson

  6. Finance for 2007 Gas distribution and supply Expenses: Gas purchased from the stores: 1’522’000 CHF Maintenance and operation (contract):176’000 CHF Material, repairs and bottle rental: 65’000 CHF Income: Gas invoiced to the gas clients 1’479’000 CHF 8% levy on the gas purchased from stores 110’000 CHF Invoiced to AB department: 45’000 CHF Invoiced to PH department: 45’000 CHF NB: We ended the year in red as all invoices had not been issued/paid yet LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson

  7. Gas distribution and supply Gases distributed during 2007: LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson

  8. Gas distribution and supply Gas Clients (sites) : LHC LHC LHC LHC LHC 15 Gas buildings: 7 LHC-buildings 8 Non-LHC LHC LHC LHC LHC LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson

  9. Consumption: LHC vs. Non-LHC Gas distribution and supply LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson *December not included

  10. Perspective (subjective analysis..) Gas distribution and supply Consumption: LHC: The trend for 2008 is maintained high as all the LHC sites are in operation; Some gas consumption might go down when going in re-circulation mode. Test areas (ISR) are decreasing in consumption. Non-LHC: No information available for any significant change. Manpower: It would be difficult to run the system with significantly less manpower than today. Daily visits are required for operation & safety; however monitoring system will ease the overview (work in progress) Small saving with a “forfait” from the FSU contractor. Non-LHC sites are ageing and will need renovation fairly soon We have a weak point in the absence of a on-call duty. (too expensive… ?) LEAF 14.03.2008/M.Wilhelmsson
