  1. WELCOME TO THE JACKSON STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST PLEASE TURN OFF CELL PHONES

  2. John 15:12-17 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

  3. 5 FACETS OF FRIENDSHIP

  4. FRIENDSHIP • FRIEND - one attached to another by affection or esteem. Merriam-Webster • A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down. Arnold H. Glasow

  5. 1. FACE TO FACE RELATIONSHIP Exodus 33: 8-11 So it was, whenever Moses went out to the tabernacle, that all the people rose, and each man stood at his tent door and watched Moses until he had gone into the tabernacle.  And it came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses.  All the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tabernacle door, and all the people rose and worshiped, each man in his tent door.  So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.

  6. 2. OUR ACTIONS BASED ON TRUST • James 2:18-23 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.  You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!  But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?  Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?  Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?  And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.  • It is more shameful to distrust our friends than to be deceived by them. Confucius

  7. 3. REVEALING OF THE HEART • James 2:23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. • Genesis 18:17 And the LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, • John 15:14-15 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.  No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

  8. 4. DEEPLY COMMITTED AND LOYAL • Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. • Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. • Proverbs 27:9 Ointment and perfume delight the heart, And the sweetness of a man's friend gives delight by hearty counsel. • John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.

  9. 5. WILLINGNESS TO BE PAINFULLY HONEST • True friends stab you in the front. Oscar Wilde • Psalm 141:5 Let the righteous strike me; It shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me; It shall be as excellent oil; Let my head not refuse it. For still my prayer is against the deeds of the wicked. • Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. • Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

  10. ARE YOU A FRIEND OF GOD? • “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.  • John 15:14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. • DO YOU BELIEVE GOD? • HAVE YOU DONE WHAT JESUS HAS COMMANDED?

  11. HAVE A FRIENDLY WEEK
