Unit 2 • Big Idea- To show that process and peril are a part of the Earth’s evolution-both natural and human processes can seriously disturb the delicate balance of the planet; perilous human processes are a measure of our failure to organize for a more harmonizing human presence in the biosphere.

  3. What are these perilous processes? • Natural • Atmospheric-tornadoes, blizzards, flooding, drought, tropical cyclones, hurricanes • Geologic- earthquake, volcanoes, slides and avalanches, tsunamis, • Biologic- infectious and parasitic diseases and insect hazards

  4. Human caused Hazards • Global warming • Ozone Depletion • Loss of Biodiversity (New Species Introduction, Destruction of Ecosystems) • Pollutionand Waste Disposal • Acid Rain • Space Junk • Genetic Erosion • Disease??
