Acknowledgements • We would like to thank you all for your constant support and encouragements in all what has been done so far with & for our YC. • We would like to also thank & congratulate all the YC members up on their outstanding achievements through the first cycle of the WPC Youth Committee
WPC-YC • Our vision: • Youth engaged in the petroleum industry to design a sustainable future • Our mission: • Create and nurture a collaborative, global forum for young people to be heard; • Champion new ideas within the petroleum industry; • Promote a realistic image of the petroleum industry, its challenges and opportunities • Bridge the generation gap through mentorship networks • Our values: • Transparency, Integrity, Diversity, Social responsibility, Environmental stewardship, Technological innovation, Long term thinking
Our journey to Madrid ’08 1st Meeting, January 2007, Madrid 2nd Meeting, Nov. 2007, Montevideo Monthly (sometimes bimonthly) teleconference meetings 3rd Meeting, March 2008, London 19th WPC congress, Madrid
Achievements & Activities at 19th WPC • Student programme: ~175 student volunteers at Congress (4 hours/day and attend for free) • Student grants: funding for 50 additional student attendance • Youth Center Exhibition Stand • YC informal talks given by leading people in the industry • YC brochures • Technology tours • Youth Party • Special Session on Youth: Round Table with CEOs and young people • Professional video of students and young professionals’ thoughts on the oil industry • Youth survey with over 750 participants
Going forward … • Prepared a detailed report about our participation in the congress: • Experiences / new ideas / suggestions for improvements • Drafted a strategy and structure outline for the YC • First YC meeting of the cycle in London, 3rd December 2008 • Election of YC leadership roles: • Chair • Vice-chair for communications • Vice-chair for university relations, students, and women • Vice-chair for strategic planning and innovation • Vice-chair for special events • Secretary • Preparing for future growth of YC from 18 now to potentially 60+ members
Tasks & task forces • 2nd WPC Youth Forum – Paris, November 2009 • A YC taskforce contributes to the WPC Youth Forum programme committee • Setting up task forces, eg: • Strategic planning and innovation • Youth activities with National Committees and other organisations • Communications • 20th WPC in Doha, Qatar in 2011 • University relations, students, and women • Special events
WPC YC Members: • Aged 35 or younger • Nominated by National Committees • 7 females and 11 males • Professional skills: • 8 engineers / technologists • 7 economists / strategy analysts • 3 members of administration/management units
