  3. John was in prison – (Mat 11:2) • John wanted to know if Jesus was indeed the “coming one” – (19,20; cf. John 1:29) • Jesus’ showed them - (21; Acts 2:22; John 20:30,31) • His miraculous works of confirmation fulfilled prophecy, - (vs. 22; cf. A man of conviction & consistency – not political correctness & ear scratching - (24) • John was a man of sobriety & self discipline – not influenced by pomp & position - (25) • More than a prophet - (26,27; cf. Mk 12:1,2; Is 40:3; Mal 3:1) • Not a greater prophet – BUT the least in the kingdom is greater – (28; cf. Col. 1:13; Eph 1:3; 3:8-13) W. 65th St church of Christ / May 13, 2007

A failure to obey God is to reject God - (29,30) • Those who rejected John’s baptism rejected God - (3:2,3; Mat 21:25) • Those who reject baptism in the name of Christ reject God - (Mat 28:18-20; Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 10:47,48; John 12:48) • Some are never satisfied - (31-34) • John and Jesus would be proved right by the results – (35; cf. 1 Cor 1:18; Jam 3:13,17,18; 2 Cor 11:3) W. 65th St church of Christ / May 13, 2007
