  1. RESOURCES …OR WHAT TO DO WITH MATERIALS

  2. COURSEBOOKS OR E-BOOKS?? THE APPEARANCE OF DIGITAL BOARDS HAS RECENTLY TRIGGERED THE PRODUCTION OF E-BOOKS. TODAY, WE WILL SEE SOME PROs (AS WELL AS SOME CONs) OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF E-BOOKS IN A CLASSROOM. DISCUSS

  3. PROS CONS • It is visually more attractive for students. • Teachers needn’t carry the mp3 player around, listening exercises included in CD-Rom • It isn’t too difficult to operate. • In most cases, it essentially includes the same exercises than a regular coursebook!!! • As a consequence, it has exactly the same flaws as a regular coursebook.

  4. AN EXAMPLE The book I have to use at school with my 1st grade of Secondary Education students

  5. CONCLUSION E-books still have a very long way to go until they prove useful. If the digital contents are EXACTLY the same contents of the printed version, very little or nothing has been improved. Digital resources, as we will see, can be exploited and become a very fruitful resource for us teachers.

  6. ‘USEFUL’ ICT RESOURCES

  7. MAXIMIZING ‘ICT’ THE INTERNET IS A POWERFUL TOOL FOR BOTH TEACHERS AND STUDENTS. IT IS OUR DUTY TO TEACH THEM HOW TO MAKE THE BEST OUT OF THE ONLINE RESOURCES AVAILABLE. THE INTERNET OFFERS: • LISTENING EXERCISES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. • MULTIPLE SOURCES OF INFORMATION • NUMEROUS WAYS TO LEARN ABOUT THE SOCIO-CULTURAL BACKGROUND OF THE COUNTRIES WHERE THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN (E-PAPERS, E-ZINES, ETC…)

  8. WHAT ICT ACTIVITIES COULD WE CARRY OUT IN OUR SESSIONS???? BRAINSTORM!!!!

  9. SOME POSSIBLE ACTIVITIES • WEBQUESTS • PROJECTS • BLOGS • SCHOOL/CLASS WEBSITES • PODCASTS • E-PAL • GAMES

  10. A PERFECT SCENARIO TODAY, WE WILL BE DAY-DREAMING. IMAGINE, FOR ONE MOMENT, THE PERFECT SITUATION…….

  11. NO, YOU LAZY THINGS!!!I’M TALKING ABOUT THE PERFECT SITUATION IN A CLASSROOM!!!!!

  12. WHAT I MEAN BY ‘ A PERFECT SITUATION’ IS ONE WHERE TEACHERS HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PREPARE THEIR • SYLLABUS DESIGN • DIDACTIC UNITS • ACTIVITIES IT IS IN THESE ELEMENTS THAT YOUR SPIRIT AS TEACHERS WILL BE REFLECTED.

  13. PREPARING A SYLLABUS DESIGN SYLLABUS DESIGNS ARE TO BE CONSTRUCTED TAKING TWO FEATURES INTO CONSIDERATION: • OUR STUDENTS: AGE, LEVEL, CHARACTERISTICS, LEARNING PREFERENCES, INTERESTS, ETC… • THE OFFICIAL STANDARDS ESTABLISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE MY SUBJECT IS DEVOTED TO THE RESOURCES USED IN A CLASSROOM, AND BECUASE SYLLABUS DESIGNS ARE EXTREMELY BORING, I WILL OMIT THIS PART

  14. RESOURCES IN A DIDACTIC UNIT WE SHOULD MAKE USE OF ALL THE AVAILABLE RESOURCES IN EACH DIDACTIC UNIT: • COURSEBOOK • STORYBOOKS (TALES, BOOKS) • AUDIO VISUAL (LISTENING EXERCISES, SONGS) • ICT • FLASHCARDS • PICTURE BOOK • OTHERS (CRAFTS, PAINT, CLAY, ETC…)

  15. OF COURSE, THE COMBINATION AND IMPORTANCE WE GIVE TO EACH OF THESE RESOURCES WILL DETERMINE THE TYPE OF SESSIONS WE WILL BE CARRYING OUT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE MORE WE USE AUDIOVISUAL RESOURCES, THE BIGGER EMPHASIS WE WILL BE PLACING ON LISTENING / SPEAKING.

  16. TO CREATE YOUR OWN SYLLABUS DESIGN AND YOUR OWN RESOURCES, FIRST YOU WILL NEED TO COMPILE TONS OF ACTIVITIES,BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN. THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO GRADE THEM IN TERMS OF DIFFICULTY AND ORGANIZE THEM ACCORDING TO THE CONTENTS AND THE DIDACTIC UNITS WHERE THOSE UNITS WILL BE.

  17. Practical example Write down what activities and what resources you would use to develop: • Present simple • Group of 5th grade of primary education, homogenous group • One session of 55’

  18. HOMEWORK • DESIGN ONE ACTIVITY WHERE STUDENTS HAVE TO MAKE USE OF ICT. TRY TO AVOID TRADITIONAL GRAMMAR EXERCISES (GAP-FILLING, MULTIPLE CHOICE, ETC..) • PLEASE INCLUDE: -OBJECTIVES -CONTENTS -ASSESSMENT CRITERIA -DESCRIPTION
