  1. BAND SAW SAFETY

  2. Be sure to set the blade guide to 1/8” above the cutting surface to avoid twisting the blade as you are working

  3. Keep your hands two inches from either side of the blade at all time. If you must cut a smaller piece use a push stick.

  4. Do not place hands in front of the blade. The material may have weak spots and slip taking your hands into the blade

  5. Do not stand to the right side of the saw while in use

  6. Never reach around a moving saw blade. Clear scrap with a piece of wood 10” or longer, or stop the machine and clear debris with a brush

  7. When cutting curves, use relief cuts

  8. Use a Vee-Block to cut round stock

  9. Should the blade break while in use. Turn off the power and wait for the machine to stop. Immediately notify your instructor.

  10. When backing out of a cut be sure to turn the machine off first to avoid un-tracking the blade.

  11. Special setups require previous permission and support from the instructor

  12. Remember the two most important safety rules Wear safety glasses at all times Use common sense. If and operation seems dangerous or you are unsure of it DON’T DO IT!!!
