Rapier Overhead Range Rapier RX - based on air break technology • RX-M (manual down pole or hook-stick operation) • RX-RC (local/ remote control via Gemini-RTU) • RX-FS or Fuse Switch
Problems Associated withOlder Air Break Designs • Mechanisms would seize up over time due to stiff bearings and corroded main contacts • Load Break Heads seized up due to complex design • Braided flexes and joints suffered corrosion • Significant maintenance over the switches’ lifecycle
New Features in RX Design • Low friction, corrosion resistant bearing leading to low maintenance and improved reliability • Laminated flexes with no corrosive effects. (Tested for 2,000 operations before single lamination broke) • New simpler design of Arc Chute device for rapid arc extinction when load breaking • New tungsten tipped contacts so that Fault Make Heads can be fitted as an option • All key components now stainless steel for corrosion resistance
