  3. Anecdote Telling a story and showing evidence of a time when you have … e.g. When I first started teaching I was very tired a lot of the time.

  4. Directive Including your audience by using You, We and Us e.g. I am so glad you came to today’s class.

  5. Alliteration Using words that begin with the same sounds close together e.g. literally love learning

  6. Fact Use information that can be proven e.g. Miss Strachan is Scottish.

  7. Opinion Tell someone what you think e.g. I’m very good at teaching English.

  8. Rhetorical Question Using a question that does not need an answer e.g. Do I really need to ask you to stop talking?

  9. Emotive Language Appealing to the readers emotions or senses e.g. You will be completely motivated and love being involved.

  10. Statistics Using percentages and figures to prove a point 95% of people asked agreed that English is the best subject.

  11. Rule of Three Listing three points closely in a sentence e.g. English is the best, amazing and an outstanding subject.
