  1. That mantra is what inspired us to convert our creative and entrepreneurial ideas and energy into a new concept-to consumer business called Contender Brands. Like many other people, we find ourselves regularly saying, ‘You know what the world really needs is xyz”…” but then we wouldn’t do anything about it. We had several ideas bouncing around in our heads before we finally decided to quit talking, and start taking action. We formalized a product development company called Contender Brands and set about learning how to take an idea from concept to consumer! Our mission at Contender Brands is to develop and cultivate ideas that bring simplicity, joy and laughter to others! Our first product line is a series of six get-to-know-you card games. We are lovers of great conversations. Or, as we like to say, we like BIG talk, not small talk! There’s nothing more energizing that coming away from a really great dialogue that made you think, made you vulnerable, made you laugh, perhaps even made you cry. Conversely, there is nothing more draining that leaving a conversation feeling as if you didn’t talk about anything meaningful for an hour.

To make a long story short, we came up with the idea for our first game while on our “family honeymoon.” That first game was called, “Cocktail Farty” where FART stands for “Friends Admitting Real Truths!” We received such a tremendous response to that first game that we launched three more conversation-starter sets: Whine Barrel, Brew-aHa, and KegO’Cards. Each of these games while more adult-focused, is not obscene or crude in any way. We realized we had an opportunity to share the joy of great conversation with younger people as well. We recognize that kids are spending more time on technology, and less time engaging in eye-to-eye dialogue, and that led us to create KIC-Start. KIC stands for Kids in Conversation, and the whole idea is to teach kids the art of conversational curiosity (ask a question, listen with empathy, thoughtfully prepare an answer, respond and share). Our latest game is Kiss’N’Cards which contains 149 questions you want to ask the person you are dating! Our packaging is phenomenal as a cylindrical container designed to look like a wine barrel, a keg of beer, a coffee cup … you get the picture! Perfect gift. Our inspiration comes from recognizing the truly wonderful relationships that are made when people take the time to really talk, listen and connect to one another. The second product line is Ringo Ring Cleaner. As a busy mom, a business owner, and a frequent traveler, and as a woman who loves my wedding rings and the meaning they hold, Monique would get frustrated when she would look down and see her rings looking dingy. You can’t travel with those jars of cleaning fluid that you get when you buy a ring and using that little brush is messy. She wanted something she could travel with, and also something she could keep in the car, office, and briefcase. We looked around the marketplace and realized that a portable ring cleaner didn’t exist. There was no way to “clean your ring on the go” and, voila, the idea for Ringo™ took root. Under the lid of the aesthetically pleasing design of Ringo you will find clips for your ring, and tiny brushes to scrub it clean using a gentle, non-toxic cleaning solution. Simply put your ring on the prongs, replace the lid, and rotate back and forth, and your ring will be brilliantly clean. Ringo is available in pink, blue, and red.
