Carbon Footprint of the U.S. Population: Causes and Spatial-Temporal Pattern National Transportation Trends Class Project Me/ENV 449, 2007 Louis Hsu Instructor: R. Husar `
Introduction • Graphed national transportation data, nominal and per capita, for • Number of Vehicles Registered, VR • Vehicle Miles Traveled, VMT • Passenger Miles Traveled, PMT • Freight Ton-Miles, FTM • Energy Intensity of Vehicles, EIV • Also graphed first 3 causality factors: • Number of Vehicles Registered, VR
Introduction • Also graphed first 3 causality factors: • Vehicles/Person, 2) Miles/Vehicle, and 3) Energy/Mile
Conclusions • The spike in trucks registered in the ’90s was due to SUVs’ classification as trucks • Automobiles/passenger cars travel the most vehicle- and passenger-miles (per capita as well) • Energy intensity of vehicles (Btu/VMT) has been in a small downtrend since the ’60s
