SAT Writing • SAT writing prompts take the form of persuasive essays. • Abide by the following formula to reduce the amount of time spent preparing your essay. • First Paragraph- Thesis, and your explanation for what think the significance of that choice entails. • Second Paragraph- Example to support your P.O.V. The most impressive examples will be drawn from literature or history. • Third Paragraph- Second Example • Fourth Paragraph- Disparage the opposing view point- Explain why the other view must be less correct than your own. Use examples. • Fifth Paragraph- Conclude-Explain how your thesis statement must be the most correct opinion in light of the examples provided and the weakness of an antithetical view point.

4. Other Tips • You may not have time to complete all five paragraphs. Reduce to four and eliminate either the second example or opposing the other view point, which ever one you feel more comfortable. • Use vocabulary words in your essay. Your essay does not need to be ostentatious, as an overuse of vocabulary can hurt the clarity if used incorrectly; however, well placed vocabulary terms can make you seem more intelligent and reduce the banality of another essay. • Proper Grammar • Indent Paragraphs • Use of much of the sheet as possible. • Handwriting needs to be legible • Remember you only have 25 minutes
