Strategy • Engagement & influence at government and ministry level • Influence public opinion – positive messaging and stories • Present and maintain ethical behaviour and reasonableness • Argue with legitimate research, evidence, and narrative • Strengthen and develop relationships with all political parties and allied groups – make education an election issue • Maintain integrity of NZC

Final Result for Government’s Direction? • Greater disparity and social injustice
Action - What you can do? • Positive stories and messaging through media & professional forums • Use all resources in our school communities to argue for the direction that we know is successful for kiwi kids, e.g. school newsletter, blogs, PTA… • Maintain child centred, rich curriculum • Don’t allow NS to be the only driver for your school’s direction • Advocate ambition and commitment to raising student achievement. • Articulate strategies to lift Maori and Pasifika student achievement
Key Messages and Soundbites • We care and grow the whole child • One school one board accountable to its community • League tables are for sport – expect winners & losers • Collaboration not competition • Ambitious to be even better • Maori succeeding in both worlds • World class student achievement and system • Class size matters – smaller is better • Charter schools = greater disparity (more choice) • Measure what counts • Public good v private profit
