  1. Theatre Journal Rhonda, Elizabeth, Cathy, Janine, Michelle,& Cathy Anthony & Aynesworth Elementary 2013-2014

  2. Tableau A silent, motionless depiction of a scene created by actors, often from a picture. The plural is tableaux.

  3. One way to use tableau in the classroom… • Reinforce emotional/feeling vocabulary students need when expressing themselves orally or in writing. One thing to remember about teaching tableau… • Be conscious of teacher commands. Avoid “I like” comments; stay with what is observed.

  4. Pantomime Acting without words through facial expression, gesture, and movement.

  5. One way to use pantomime in the classroom… • After teaching a wild animal unit and talking a trip to the zoo, students will pantomime their favorite animal. The other students will guess which zoo animal they are portraying. One thing to remember about teaching pantomime… • To remind students not to speak!

  6. Reader’s Theatre A performance created by actors reading a script rather than working from memory.

  7. One way to use creative drama in the classroom… • Have students act out the events of a story as it is read aloud. One thing to remember about teaching creative drama… • Allow plenty of time for CPR, create-practice-revise.

  8. Creative Drama An improvisational, process-centered form of theatre in which participants are guided by a leader to imagine, enact, and reflect on human experiences.

  9. One way to use reader’s theatre in the classroom… • Students (in groups) can create their own scripts to write about a particular subject. . . to depict a story or event from that time period. One thing to remember about teaching reader’s theatre… • It’s different, creative way to work with information students need to learn in school.

  10. Puppetry Almost anything brought to life by human hands to create performance. Types of puppets include rod, hand, and marionette.

  11. One way to use puppetry in the classroom… • SWBAT retell a familiar story and create their own paper bag puppets. One thing to remember about teaching puppetry… • Teaching puppetry is a creative way to integrate both visual and performing arts within any subject matter.
