  6. Our OMP Partner • $6.6B program (Phase I) • 35 miles of runways, taxiways • 2.2M cu yds of PCC • 29M cu yds of earthwork • Modern, parallel runway configuration • Massive earthmoving, construction, hydraulic, environmental impact challenges

  7. Moving toward Parallel Runways

  8. CEAT contributes to OMP in 2005 • Illuminate technical issues… improve decisions! • Subgrade stabilization study contributed to decisions that avoided additional test sections, saving over $100,000. • Improved specification language for lime modification and lime stabilization, providing for improved construction quality and reduced potential for weather-related construction delays. • Study of soil and turfgrass contributed to a decision to avoid import of topsoil to O’Hare, saving millions of dollars. • Improved specification language to achieve longer pavement service life with more durable aggregates. • Improved specification language to reduce shrinkage cracking potential. • Strategies to reduce concrete cost compared to previous O’Hare mixtures, with potential to save over $100,000 on the 9L-27R new north runway. • 20 Tech Notes covering wide range of issues

  9. FAA -- FY2005 Program • Pavement Research Program • Moisture curling of concrete slabs for airfield applications • D.A. Lange and J.R. Roesler • Materials Testing for NAPTF Base/Subbase and Subgrade Layers • E.Tutumluer • Fatigue and Fracture Behavior of Airfield Concrete Slabs • J.R. Roesler • Fatigue in Airport Pavements • S.H. Carpenter • Design of Flexible Overlay Systems for Asphalt Pavements: Phase II Advanced Model Development • W.G. Buttlar
