Mini-case: Earthquake in Central America! Earthquake hits Central American city. Inter-agency assessment team calls for both immediate shelter & longer-term housing responses. Local NGO, VPP, obtains donor funding to: • clear debris from devastated neighborhood • procure/distribute low-cost Chinese tents for homeless • set up voucher system for housing repair kits (homeowners will use vouchers to obtain kits at building material supplier; supplier to be reimbursed by VPP Stakeholders support, praise VPP’s efforts Task: As a team, brainstorm possible environmental impacts (positive as well as negative) of VPP activities Mod 6 Ses 1

What do we need to support Sustainable Construction? Environmental considerations are incorporated into all aspects of construction. Construction decision-making process supports actions to minimize environmental impact, resource extraction, use of energy, water, materials, & land, prefers renewable resources over non-renewables.
