Next Gen Consoles • The 2 current next gen consoles that are out at the moment are PS4 and Xbox One. • The PS4 has already sold 7 million units, outselling the Xbox One. • The Xbox One costs more than the PS4. • PS4 is the 4th generation console of the PlayStation franchise whereas the Xbox is only the 3rd generation for Xbox.
Immersive Technology • Immersive Technology is Virtual Reality in gaming, a good example of virtual reality in gaming is the Oculus Rift. • Immersive technology refers to technology that blurs the line between the physical world and digital or simulated world, thereby creating a sense of immersion. • Another piece of virtual reality is the Project Morpheus which is made by Sony for PS4.
Augmented Reality • Augmented reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. • Augmented reality has many applications, and many areas can benefit from the use of AR technology. AR was first used for military, industrial, and medical applications, but was soon applied to commercial and entertainment areas.
Cloud Gaming • Cloud Gaming is a game that resides on a company server rather than on the gamerscomputer or device. The gamer enters the game by installing a client program that can access the server where the games are running. The main advantage of cloud gaming is that the company can upgrade the games without having to worry as much about the capabilities of users computers. • An example of a cloud game is GTA V as it is run by the company's own server ‘Rockstar Cloud Servers’.
Open Source • An open-source game, is a video game whose source code is open-source. They are often freely distributable and sometimes cross-platform compatible. • Open source games which are free software and contain exclusively free content are called freegames. Most free games are open-source, but not all open-source games are free software; some open-source games contain proprietary non-free content.
