  2. What is a Young Adult Carer? A Young Adult Carer (18-25yrs old) will provide or intend to provide care, assistance or support to another family member often on an unpaid basis. .

  3. A young adult carer can be caring for any family member as a result of a serious illness or disability • Brothers, sisters or partner • Parents/Guardians or step parents • Aunty, uncle • Grandparents • Our Young Carers Service works with 5-18yr olds • The Young Adult Service works with 19-25yr olds off the record Carers Services .

  4. The cared for person may have: • A serious mental health problem • A physical disability • A chronic, serious or terminal illness • A learning disability • Speech, Sight or hearing loss • A drug or alcohol dependency .

  5. Carers often provide some or all of the following • House work & Bill paying • Signing, translating or reading/ writing on behalf of the cared for person • Personal care • Giving medication • Keeping them safe • Emotional support .

  6. Did you Know…. • 5.3% of all 18-24 year olds provide unpaid family care. (there are 16,889 18-24yr olds in B&NES) • Therefore there could be 895 Young Adult Carers in B&NES. .

Bringing together carers of a similar age. • One-to-one sessions helping you to think about your move to adult life. • Support in finding & taking a suitable break from their caring responsibilities. • Help to develop your social networks & manage your social time. • Identifying support you need. • Discussion and support in dealing with issues that are specifically faced by Young Adult Carers. off the record Reg.
