What is a SHSM? • Specialized career-focused high school program allowing students to prepare for a career that matches their individual skills and interests • As SHSM students work towards their high school diploma, they obtain valuable work related skills, knowledge and certifications recognized by the Hospitality and Tourism industry
How does SHSM benefit you? • SHSM students will have a better awareness of the range of career opportunities in the Hospitality and Tourism industry and they will be better prepared for their post secondary studies and work in this field

The focused learning experiences of a SHSM offers students the opportunity to: • gain a better understanding of the Hospitality & Tourism industry through their co-op education and other reach-ahead or experiential learning activities. • SHSM participants are more equipped to make informed career decisions explore & identify career goals

Bundle of Credits • 4 "major" credits in Hospitality and Tourism (2 in Grade 11 & 2 in Grade 12) • 1 Grade 11 English credit • 1 Grade 12 math credit • 1 science or business credit • 2 Co-Op credits
Experiential Learning & Career Exploration Activities Planned activities that take place outside of the regular classroom and relate to SHSM sector • Job Shadowing • Job Twinning • Work Experience • Explore, observe, participate and reflect on a variety of sector-specific experiences and careers
Reach Ahead Opportunities • Attend a college or university class/lecture specific to a hospitality • Attend a college/university campus tour or industry setting • Interview a skilled trades person • Participate in Skills Canada competitions
Development of Essential Skills & Ontario Skills Passport (OSP) • identifies work habits required of employees • Ontario Skills Passport (OSP) provides clear descriptions of the Essential Skills and work habits important for work, learning and life.
Students can complete the SHSM program to prepare them for their pathway to any of the four post-secondary destinations, apprenticeship, college, university and work
