  1. REVIEW: Standard Form of a Circle

  2. REVIEW: General Form of a Circle

  3. Converting from General to Standard Move the x terms together and the y terms together. Complete the square (as needed) for x. Complete the square(as needed) for y. Factor the left & simplify the right

  4. Example 1: Write the standard equation of the circle. State the center & radius. Center: (4, 0) radius: 3

  5. Ex 2. Write the standard equation of the circle. State the center & radius. Center: (-2, 3) radius: 4

  6. Ex 3. Write the standard equation of the circle. State the center & radius.

  7. Converting from Standard to General Foil both trinomial squares (as needed) Move the radius to the left side of the equation. Simplify the constants. Write the equation in general form.

  8. Ex 4. Write the general form of the equation of the circle.

  9. Ex 5. Write the general form of the equation of the circle.

  10. Ex 6. Write the equation of a circle with a diameter of 6 and a center of (–4, –5) in BOTH general and standard form! Standard Form: General Form:

  11. Ex. 7 Write the equation of the circle in both standard and general form. (2, –1) 4 Center: Radius: Standard Form: General Form:

  12. Ex. 8 Write the equation of the circle with a center of (3, 4) & that is tangent to x = 1. Center: (3, 4) Radius: 2 Standard Form:
