Home Insulation Programmes • Healthy Homes Healthy People • Hutt Valley Residents • Community Service Card Holders • Home owners and Private landlords • NO HCNZ or Council properties • For whanau with health needs • Referrals can be supported by provider or self referrals • Programme includes 3 stages • Stage 1 = nurses visit for health and social assessment • Stage 2 = scope of home by EnergySmart • Stage 3 = Insulation install by EnergySmart • Healthy Housing—HCNZ Hutt Valley • HCNZ clients • Providers cannot refer to the programme • Currently installing in Taita South with Naenae targeted to follow • Programme includes • Insulation installation • Other property development options • Nurses visit for health and social assessment

  4. Is your home healthy? • Dampness and cold are the most common health hazards in the home. • The elderly and very young are more vulnerable to health conditions made worse by cold and damp, including: • Asthma • Respiratory illnesses • Allergies • Aching joints, back pain

  5. The benefits of insulation • 34% of your warmth escapes through uninsulated ceilings and floors. A further 25% escapes through windows, which can be reduced by well-fitted curtains. • Insulation and a hot water cylinder wrap will reduce your energy costs. • Research has found that families in drier, insulated homes had fewer medical and hospital visits for respiratory conditions and fewer days off work and school.

Programme Components • Health and Social Assessment • Public Health Nurse • Ongoing referrals to service providers • Initial Housing Assessment = Scope • EnergySmart go into the home to see if we can insulate • Education how to run an energy efficient home • Retrofitting • EnergySmart install the home insulation

  7. How do you qualify? • Do you live in the wider Hutt Valley region? • Whanau must have or qualify for a CSC and have high health needs. • Was the home you live in built before 2000, and is not owned by HCNZ or City Council? • We are seeking not less than 50% Maori and Pacific referrals of our total • Whanau must give consent for the 3 stages of the programme.
