Is your home healthy? • Dampness and cold are the most common health hazards in the home. • The elderly and very young are more vulnerable to health conditions made worse by cold and damp, including: • Asthma • Respiratory illnesses • Allergies • Aching joints, back pain
The benefits of insulation • 34% of your warmth escapes through uninsulated ceilings and floors. A further 25% escapes through windows, which can be reduced by well-fitted curtains. • Insulation and a hot water cylinder wrap will reduce your energy costs. • Research has found that families in drier, insulated homes had fewer medical and hospital visits for respiratory conditions and fewer days off work and school.
Programme Components • Health and Social Assessment • Public Health Nurse • Ongoing referrals to service providers • Initial Housing Assessment = Scope • EnergySmart go into the home to see if we can insulate • Education how to run an energy efficient home • Retrofitting • EnergySmart install the home insulation
