Grand Canyon

1. Grand Canyon No one knows exactly what happened and caused the Grand Canyon, located in Arizona, but there are some pretty good guesses. One of them says that it was erosion, water, ice, wind. Continental drift had to do with it in a way of its own also. The Grand Canyon was formed by the Colorado River over a period of 6 million years. It is 277 miles long, and 4 to 18 miles wide. About 2 billion years of Earth’s history can be found in the Grand Canyon after the river cut its path through the layers of rock.

2. Yellowstone National Park Yellowstone spans an area of 3,572 square miles, including parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in North America and is centered over the largest super volcano in the world. Half of the world’s geothermal features are in Yellowstone, caused by this ongoing volcanism.

3. Rocky Mountains The Rocky Mountains were formed is an intense tectonic plate movement. This took place a really, really long time ago. Repeated oceanic plates crashed together and sank beneath the surface. As the plates kept crashing together, the crust would fold, eventually creating the Rocky Mountains.
